Sony has recently announced the new SRW-9000 HDCAM-SR camcorder and is already in the track of announcing the other new camcorder, the SRW-9000PL which is a PL mount version and 35mm imager. This SRW-9000PL creation gives video shooters more of the image creation options. Both versions of Sony namely the SRW-9000 HDCAM-SR camcorder and SRW-9000PL are built to adapt to the file based production of the future based on the delivery of new SR memory solid state media. TV broadcast and Cinematic production can now make use of the HDCAM SR technology for their current and future needs according to Chris Marchitelli, senior manager for CineAlta and Production Systems for Sony Electronics. SR is file based as before and can support data recordings of resolution up to 4K like DPX.
SRW-9000 comes with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080p, digital signal processing to capture up to 1080/60P images and 2/3-inch CCDs with a 14-bit A/D converter. Sony is introducing SRW-9000PL understanding the market requirement of a 35mm “B” camera that is complement to F35. Also an optional upgrade kit in introduced for the SRW9000. Both the 35mm upgrade kit and SRW9000 give complete RGB image capturing, variable speed with speed ramp capability, ultra wide dynamic range, HyperGamma capability and S-Log.
Sony is all set to announce “SR Lite”, a 220Mbps data rate codec that is based on the open MPEG-4SStP. This will also support like a MXF wrapped file to ensure the quality of the picture. SR Lite provides more flexibility and efficiency for the SstP file based production.
Sony will also come out with the upgrade of SR memory on the already existing SRW-9000PL and Sony SRW-9000 Digital Camcorder along with a memory adapter for both the F23 and F35.
